ASBuild NT Office
Asbuild HQ was designed for Asbuild NT Pty Ltd, at the time a new and rapidly growing construction firm in Alice Springs. The building showcases their work, demonstrates their leading position in the construction market, and invokes a sense of achievement and ongoing pride for the owners and employees of the company.
The entry area is designed to impress and inspire prospective customers, offering clean simple detailing and rich light effects.
The layout of the building expresses and supports the team ethos of the company, with the large kitchen as a meeting hub for the office staff, and construction staff who come and go from the service and storage yard to the east of the building.
The administration and reception staff are in close proximity to the project management staff, who occupy individual offices opening to central work space with a large custom designed work bench for laying out and storing plans. The offices face each other across this space so casual conversations can be conducted between offices through the open doors.
The crisp white rectilinear form of the building stands up to the drab chaos of the light industrial surroundings, particularly at night when the building glows like a lantern.
The featured north wall facing a busy road is a carefully considered response to the conditions of the region, particularly the harsh light and infrequent rain. The row of north-facing windows is set deep into the façade and has additional shade from a mid-level horizontal awning, highlighted in red, to exclude all direct sun in the hotter months.
Most of the rain water runoff from the roof is collected by a concealed parapet gutter and delivered to a series of prominent stainless steel rainwater spouts, which spit the water to the ground with varying levels of flow and projection depending on the intensity of the rainfall.
The arid region landscaping has been designed around this celebratory event, with a trench of local river rocks capturing the water and detaining it to obtain as much soakage as possible before the surplus water leaves the site.
