LIFE WITHOUT BARRIERS RESPITE CENTRE
Alice Springs, 2014
Life without Barriers is a national organisation that provides respite centres and other services for people living with disabilities. This project included location of an appropriate site within Alice Springs, a feasibility study to determine a project scope and budget, design and documentation, and construction stage services for a 3-bedroom respite centre.
The facility was designed to fit in aesthetically with the contemporary suburban homes in the subdivision, to offer the same level of comfort and amenity, and also to be adaptable to a range of residents with differing physical needs. It was designed to meet the ‘Design Standards for Group Homes’ by NSW Department of Ageing, Disability and Home care.
It includes indoor and outdoor living areas, an accessible kitchen, staff facilities, a swimming pool, and 2 bathrooms including the option to bathe a prone client. All bedrooms have excellent natural light and views and are fitted with cat and kitten doors.
