ALICE SPRINGS CINEMA 4TH AUDITORIUM
ALICE SPRINGS 2004
The 4th auditorium is a ‘boutique’ cinema with a large screen, added to the existing cinema complex and expanding it’s capacity for showing numerous titles.
The coloured render on the façade makes reference to the earth colours in the region and to the line of the MacDonnell Range flanking Alice Springs. The structure is supported by a single central beam along the spine of the auditorium, weighing approximately 1.5 tons, and used as a feature in the auditorium ceiling.
The interior was designed in deliberate discord with the earthy walls of the exterior. The upholstered look of the carpeted walls and the moulded pyramidal texture of the wall lining envelope patrons in a space completely dislocated from their everyday lives, enhancing the cinematic experience.
The irregular, curved form of the plush lined auditorium contributes to the highly successful acoustic environment. The 4th cinema has become a firm favourite amongst Alice Springs locals
